A unique and special place!

The Blue Bell Foundation for Cats was founded in 1989 by Bertha Yergat, a visionary ahead of her time and a pioneer of the concept of estate planning for pets. Our mission is to offer loving and compassionate lifetime care for senior cats whose owners can no longer care for them. Our vision is to be the leading cat retirement sanctuary promising total peace of mind for cat owners and homelike, personalized care for the cats entrusted to us.

Descriptions of our designated funds:

Cat Care General Fund - This is our main, unrestricted operating fund. Contributions pay for expenses such as food, litter, property maintenance, utilities, cleaning supplies, staffing, medications and veterinary care for the cats.

Community Cat Fund - Underwrites the expense of our Lifetime Care Program for senior, un-adoptable cats that are accepted for residence to Blue Bell from local animal shelters. We can only accept a community cat if there are sufficient funds to cover their placement cost and we are under our maximum cat capacity.

Veterinary Expense Fund - The cost of veterinary care, diagnostics and treatments continue to increase at an alarming rate. Many of the senior cats who live at Blue Bell come to us with pre-existing conditions, and others develop health issues as they age with us. We have established the Veterinary Expense Fund to highlight this critical need that comprises approximately 15% of our total operating costs and 33% of total non-payroll costs.

Blue Bell Gardens Fund - As with all living things, the Blue Bell gardens need ongoing care. We have a dedicated team led by Sue Brown, our Curator of Horticulture, to ensure the gardens thrive long into the future. Our gardens provide food and homes for many native species, are a tranquil place for reflection, and house several unique art installations. We have established the Blue Bell Gardens Fund to help underwrite the expense of their upkeep.

Other ways to donate:

One of the best ways to donate is to include Blue Bell in your tax and estate plans. There are many tax-advantaged options both for giving during your lifetime and as a bequest in your will or trust. To assist you in exploring some of these options we have developed an Estate and Lifetime Giving Planning Guide.
